So after a long weekend of….”overindulging” I was feeling a little puffy and sluggish, so I whipped up what I call my “detox water.” This recipe will help you help you clean out your system, rehydrate and shed a bit of water weight.

Recipe

½ orange cut up

½ cucumber cut up

½ lemon cut up

Ginger tea (you can buy this, or make your own by letting a 1 inch chunk of shredded ginger steep in 2 cups of boiling water.)

Peppermint tea

2-liter pitcher

1. First make sure you wash your veggies and fruit well, since the rind will be soaking in the water you don’t want any left over pesticides.

2. Cut up the fruit and squeeze the juice into the pitcher, then add the cut up fruit to the pitcher. (You don’t need to squeeze the cucumber!)

3. Boil water and steep you teas for about 5 minutes, then add to your pitcher, fill up the rest of the pitcher with filtered water.

For 5 days (or really as long as you like, but I think 5 days gets the job done) drink an entire pitcher per day. You can combine this drink with a cleanse or just add it to your regular diet.

Lemon- Helps flush out toxins, balances and maintains the body’s PH levels, contains pectin fiber which is beneficial for colon health.

Ginger- Aids in digestion, and improves the absorption of nutrients into the body.

Oranges- Supports proper kidney function.

Cucumbers- Contain a good amount of vitamin B, which helps boost energy and is a natural anti-inflammatory.

1. Beans & Lentils- Since they’re both high in protein & fiber they help to stabilize your blood sugar levels and keep you full.

 2. Wild Fish- Foods that are naturally high in omega 3 fatty acids increase insulin sensitivity, helping your body to increase muscle mass and decrease belly fat.

 3. Blueberries- Most fruits are great snacks on any meal plan because they contain vitamins and fiber. Blueberries are an even better choice since there packed with antioxidants, and a lot cheaper than other high antioxidant fruits (acai berries).

 4. Chilies- A compound found in chilies called capsaicin has a thermogenic effect, meaning it causes the body to burn extra calories for 20 minutes after you eat them, and they pack heat forcing you to eat your meal more slowly, this allows the stomach time to tell the brain its full.

 5. Plain Yogurt- The combination of carbs, protein and fat keep you feeling satisfied and staves off feeling of hunger. Try to choose yogurts that don’t contain added sugar (other than what’s contained in the fruit) artificial sweeteners or gelatin- this can be difficult to find, so read your labels! Eat more by substituting plain yogurt for mayo, sour cream, or cream in your recipes.

 6. Quinoa- This ultimate grain is a complete protein and glutton free! It also has tons of fiber. Replace your usual carbohydrate with this amazing side (also great to serve under beans and veggies I toss mine with salsa and plain yogurt.)

 7. Avocados- Even though avocados are high in fat it’s the healthy monounsaturated type that our bodies crave, it keeps you full and works to strengthen skin, hair and nails.  Replace typical sandwich spreads such as mayo or cheese with mashed avocado.

Eat Something Spicy

Peppers contain a compound called capsaicin, when studied it was shown to regulate the release of hunger hormones and temporally increase metabolism.

Sit Less

Sitting for 3 hours or more per day is associated with a 74% increase in risk of developing metabolic syndrome- a condition that puts you at risk for diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and obesity. Prolonged sitting also puts you at risk for insulin sensitivity.

Wash Your Veggies or Go Organic

Researchers found in cells studied pollutants were stored in fat tissue causing inflammation and affecting the pathways that regulate metabolism.

SLEEP

In the bodies of people who lack proper sleep studies have shown a reduced amount of calories burned during rest and basic bodily function such as pumping blood, breathing etc. Considering we are at rest generally 65%-70% of our day this can make a huge impact on our overall metabolism.

Since most of us now rely on a home heating/cooling system were generally pretty comfortable creatures. When facing extremes in hot or cold our body has to work harder thus for burn more calories in order to regulate our internal temperature.

Last 10 Pounds Diet Plan

I hate dieting, hate hate hate hate dieting. However sometimes I do it, usually before the summer or a vacation and I would rather temporally suffer for a couple weeks then return to a more moderate existence then drag on the calorie counting for months. The diet below will help you peel off the last couple pounds, it’s not fun but it is effective.

Cut out

Dairy

Red Meat

Glutton (anything with wheat) Rice, quinoa are ok!

Anything processed

Sugar, other then what’s in the protein shake

Limit

Alcohol

Limit your carbs to 1/2 cup of non-glutton grains (rice or quinoa) or palm sized amount of starchy veggies and the fruit in your shake.

Eat

Lots of non-starch veggies the more the better, cooked or raw doesn’t matter

Fish, chicken, tofu, beans, nuts

Breakfast- (Or as a replacement for any meal)

Protein Shake

Handful of frozen berries

½ banana

1 scoop of protein powder (not whey) there are so many other proteins rather then whey now a days, hemp, rice, pea, or blends.

1 cup non dairy milk (almond, soy, coconut)

Lunch

Big salad, with unlimited veggies and greens,

Add one serving of protein (chicken, tofu, fish, beans)

Add one serving of fats (1/2 avocado, 2tbsp nuts)

2 tbsp. non-creamy dressing,

Dinner

Unlimited veggies

Palm size of your carb so your rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes

Palm size of protein (chicken, fish, tofu)

Snack

For me that’s a glass of red wine at night, but its up to you, choose a 100-200 calorie snack that follows the rules above.

Tips

I believe proper digestion is a huge part of maintaining your health and weight, always give yourself at least 12 hours of fasting at night, so stop consuming at 8pm then have breakfast at 8am. (Studies have shown the longer you can fast at night the more efficient weight loss, if you can try to go for up to 16 hours, i.e. eat dinner at 6pm, then have breakfast at 10am the next morning.)

It’s been proven over and over again that glutton and dairy are hard for humans to digest and cause inflammation. If you live an overall healthy lifestyle, the body can heal itself when you do occasionally consume these foods in moderation but when your on a cleanse or trying to lose weight do yourself a favour and just cut them out.

The diet described is roughly 1200/1300 calories, if you exercise increase your serving sizes or add an extra 200 calorie snack.

 

The Benefits of an Anti Inflammatory Diet

Inflammation in the body is strongly linked to heart disease, cancer, arthritis, weight gain amongst a slew of other health issues. Before the book was released Dr Jung’s program was considered a “Hollywood secret” and celebrities would pay thousands of dollars to be on a monitored plan, so it’s kind of cool that now the general public can benefit from this new research without the crazy price tag.

The concept is that you eliminate inflammatory food from your diet and replace them with ph. neutral or anti-inflammatory foods. His diet is mainly a cleanse (if you don’t want to make all his smoothies and recipes you can actually buy it already made but it’s fairly expensive)  after you adopt the principals and follow them for life.
